The Tower

The Tower is an operational hub. This is where the comms team are in communication with aircraft, field parties and the rest of base.

On a good weather day, it can get busy in the Tower. They might have to deal with the movements of the 5 BAS aircraft as well as any visiting aircraft. Every evening they have scheduled communications with field teams and the other BAS bases on the Peninsula, Sky Blu and Fossil Bluff. They also monitor access to the runway for the snow clearing JCBs and for people wanting to cross over to the hangar.

It’s a good vantage point for seeing what’s going on around the station too, and they are usually happy for people to pop up and enjoy the views.
